The International Congress on Calvin Research is a conference for worldwide scholarly discussion of the latest advances in theological and historical research on Calvin, the beginnings of the Reformed church, and its theological traditions in the 16th century. The congress meets once every four years. The next one will be held in Michigan (USA) in July 2023.
Brief History
Since 1974, the International Congress on Calvin Research has organized a conference every four years. Starting in Amsterdam in 1974, the congress has been hosted by institutions on four continents. The next conference will be held in Michigan (USA) in July 2023.
Founded by the late Professor Wilhelm H. Neuser, the first president of the ICCR, the Congress has developed into a network of Calvin scholars from different backgrounds. Social historians, church historians and theologians interact to foster high-quality research. The Congress welcomes short paper presentations by PhD students as well as by established scholars. The number of younger scholars at each Calvin Congress indicates that Calvin research is very much alive.
The plenary lectures and a selection of short papers of each Congress have been published, to make this knowledge available to the world. The ICCR continues to serve the academic community under the leadership of Professor Karin Maag, who took on the presidency in 2018.
